Truck driver gets N200,000 bail for traffic offences

A 38-year-old truck driver, identified as Ali Miko, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences.

Miko is facing a three-count charge of driving dangerously, causing obstruction and driving one-way.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Olusegun Kokoye told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 11, 2018 at about 8am along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

“The defendant, being the driver in charge of Mack Truck with registration number GML 32 XX, drove same vehicle on the public highway in a manner which was reckless and dangerous to the public,” he said.

Kokoye added that the defendant drove same vehicle on the public highway in a direction prohibited by the Road Traffic Law and caused obstruction.

According to him, the offences are punishable under Lagos State Traffic Law No. 4, Vol. 45, (9)(1) Laws of Lagos State 2012.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.M Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government. ‎

Ajayi adjourned the case till March 21, 2018 for mention.
