Truck driver steals 67 bags of cashew nuts

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A 25-year-old truck driver, Jelili Muriano, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 67 bags of cashew nuts.

Muriano is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 2018 at Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal 67 bags of cashew nuts valued at N3.5 million property of one Tony Ogidi,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He ordered that N15,000 be deposited into the Chief Registrar’s account and adjourned the matter till January 14, 2019 for mention.
