Truck driver steals N6.7m cashew nuts in Apapa

A 28-year-old truck driver, identified as Sodiq Awe, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 84 bags of cashew nut in Apapa.

Awe is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbona told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 26, 2018 at Apapa.

“The defendant, being a truck driver, conspired with others, now at large, to steal 84 bags of cashew nut valued N6,786,262, property of Goose Integrated Ventures Ltd,” he said.

Ogbona said the offences contravened sections 411 and 281 (1 & 2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Awe pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who must be property owners within the jurisdiction of the court and one of the sureties must be a blood relation.

She adjourned the case till April 10, 2018 for mention.
