Two truck drivers, Oriowo Kayode (42) and Akingbade Oluwatobi (22), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the breach of public peace at Kirikiri.
Kayode and Oluwatobi are facing a two-count charge of threatening violence and possessing dangerous weapons.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 22, 2018 at about 3:30pm at Auto-Wharf, Kirikiri.
“The defendants did unlawfully conduct themselves in disorderly manner by threatening violence that caused breach of public peace by brandishing with cutlass and other dangerous weapons in the public and chasing members of the public around,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants unlawfully had in their possession dangerous weapons.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 56 (1&2) and 51 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrates, K.A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relative to each of the defendant.
She adjourned the case till December 12, 2018 for mention.
