Truck drivers in court for stealing detergent worth N13.4m

Two truck drivers were arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 26 tons of Jumbo detergent laden inside trucks.

The truck drivers were identified as Gambo Audu, 32 and Oluwafemi Ayantayo, 50. They were charged for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor told the court that the men committed the offences on February 14, 2017 at about 10:30am at Plot 2, Unity Park Complex, Happy Home Avenue, Kirikiri Industry Layout, Apapa.

The prosecuting counsel said the truck drivers stole 26 tons of jumbo detergent heavily loaded inside trucks with registration number AKD 939 XF and LSD 148 XF worth N13,400, 000 property of Bollore Logistics Company situated at 26, Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.

He said the offences contravene sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Magistrate, A.I.O Alaka (Mrs) granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 9, 2017 for mention.
