Truck owner drags driver to court over N133,000 theft

A 37-year-old truck driver, Friday Amuerodah, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N133,000 from the owner of the truck he drives. 

Amuerodah is facing a one-count charge of stealing. The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 25, 2019 at about 2pm at Kirikiri, Apapa.

“The defendant stole the sum of N88,000 he was given to carry out official work and the sum of N45,000 he realized using one Mack Truck with registration number KRD 472 XS property of one Erhabor Augustine all totalling the sum of N133,000,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. 

The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety. The surety must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till June 26, 2019 for mention.
