Truck owner drags driver to court over N235,000 theft

A 28-year-old truck driver, Michael Joshua, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N235,000 belonging to God’s Gift Transport Company.

Joshua is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in February 2019 at God’s Gift Transport Company, Mile 2, Lagos. 

He said the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.O Erinle granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till July 17, 2019 for mention.
