Truck owner drags man to court over N268,000 theft

A truck owner, identified as Oliver Kelechi, on Friday dragged Adeyemo Wasiu (33) to an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N268,000 under false pretence at Apapa.

Wasiu is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in April 2019 at Berger Suya Bus Stop, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N268,000 from one Oliver Kelechi with the pretence that he was going to use it for road expenses on the Complainant’s trucks, a representation he knew to be false,” Onaiwu said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate T. Shekoni-Adeyekun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till May 8, 2019 for mention.
