Relevant arms of the Federal Government are collaborating with the government of Lagos State to find lasting solution to the perennial Apapa gridlock.

Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, disclosed this yesterday when she hosted members of the Port Consultative Council (PCC) who paid courtesy call on her at Marina, Lagos.

According to a press release issued yesterday by the General Manager Public Affairs of NPA, Chief Michael Ajayi, Usman informed her gusts that “there is an ongoing synergy between the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Lagos State and the NPA on the urgent need to fix the perennial problem of the Lagos ports access roads”.

She said NPA had also opened talks with General Electric (GE) on the need to design and prioritize rail network linking the ports, with Lagos as the take off point.

The NPA Managing Director assured the PCC members of further collaboration as NPA seeks effective solution to congestion on the port access road and Apapa gridlock.

Se reportedly said that the organization would make formal submission on the Ports and Harbours Bills at the National Assembly reiterating the fact that her team will block all forms of revenue leakages in the system.

Earlier in his address, PCC Chairman, Otunba Kunle Folarin, while congratulating Usman on her appointment, said “NPA has become the most important element that drives the economy outside the oil industry”.

“If NPA grows, the nation grows,” Ajayi quoted Folarin as saying.

He said PCC acts as a link between the maritime industry stakeholders and the government.

Folarin begged the NPA boss to provide the group with vehicles and support it to organise its proposed 2017 Maritime Summit.
