A 33-year-old visa agent, identified as Kelvin Egboro was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding one Omosowo Toluwa of N303,000.
Egboro is facing a two-count charge bothering on false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in August 2016 at No 18, Boyejo Street, Ajegunle, Lagos.
“The defendant obtained the cash sum of N300,000 from one Omosowo Toluwa with pretence to process travelling document for him,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor added that the defendant also stole N3,000 from Toluwa.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 (9)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties each in like sum. One of the sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be a blood relation to the defendant. The sureties should furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till September 6, 2018 for mention.
