Woman, five others in court for breach of peace in Apapa

A 54-year-old woman, Folashade Olateju, and five other men were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing breach of peace in Apapa.

The five men are Festus Aiyenero (42), Joshua Kadiri (42), Olayiwola Taiwo (39), Wole Ademomi (43), and Abdulateef Olateju (25).

They are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, managing unlawful society and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 26, 2018 at about 2pm at Iso-Isu/Church Street, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to manage unlawful society and unlawful assembly,” Tedunjaye said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 412, 41, 44 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be a clergy.

He adjourned the matter till January 15, 2019 for mention.
