Agents accuse Customs of sabotaging Executive Order

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA) has advised the new Customs management team to bring their training to bear as career officers and work in line with the federal government policy on Ease of Doing Business in the country.

This came on the heels of the statement by the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali that the Service would dump the Executive Order on Ease of Doing Business.

National Publicity Secretary of the association, Kayode Farinto in a statement at the weekend accused the Service of being the stumbling block towards implementation of the Executive Order.

While congratulating the management team, Farinto urged the officers to bring back the policy of the Customs boss to conform to the World Customs Organization and World Trade Organization policy on Trade Facilitation Agreement by ensuring the successes of the implementation of the second phase of the Ease of Doing Business which the government rolled out last week.

“The government has been magnanimous in all her effort to convince the comity of nations that we can be better in our dealings by the introduction of the national action plan on Ease of Doing Business which must translate to reduction in the cost of cargo clearance in our ports. But it is believed and evidently shows that NCS is stumbling block from its implementation.

“The statement of your CGC during his last visit to Lagos is an attestation to this fact where he said Customs is not ready to implement ease of doing business.

“I urge this new management to insist that your administration must be in tune with the federal government policy on this matter. Remember that you are all career officers and you need to bring back the policy of Col. Hameed Ali to conform with the World Customs Organization and World Trade Organization policy on Trade Facilitation Agreement which Nigeria is a signatory to particularly by ensuring the successes of the of the implementation of the second phase of the Ease of doing business which the government rolled out last week,” the statement said.
