The second edition of the annual Ships & Ports Table Tennis Championship has been scheduled to hold tomorrow at the prestigious Apapa Club, Lagos.
The competition is sponsored by the National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu.
Already, 22 persons have been registered to participate in the competition whose maiden edition was won last year by a staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mrs. Kehinde Borokini.
This year’s competition parades participants form major maritime organisations including three staff of NPA including the defending champion; three staff of Maersk Nigeria Limited; a staff of Sifax Group and a staff of ENL Consortium.
Other participants are drawn from Five Star Logistics; New Cargo Handling Company; PIL Nigeria Limited; Certified Institute of Shipping and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL).
Coordinator of the Ships & Ports Table Tennis Competition, Mr. Daniel Nwankwuoke, said that the maiden edition of the championship held February last year, had 12 participants cutting across various segments of the maritime industry.
“The championship is the first of its kind in the shipping sector. The one-day competition, was instituted to promote recreation and healthy sporting activities among maritime industry operators,” he said.
Nwakwuoke said that the Ships & Ports Table Tennis Championship will complement the Annual Maritime Cup Football Competition organised by the leading maritime media firm, and further promote the well-being of industry operators and create camaraderie in the industry.
In his opening remark at the seminar, acting General Manager Corporate and Strategic Planning, Femi Jegede, said the strategic plan is a roadmap to lead the organization from where it is now to where it would be like in five or ten years and an essential first step in the development of a result-based accounting system. He said the step taken by NPA management would bring lasting change to the organization in the next five years.
The seminar was attended by General Managers, Port Managers, Assistant General Managers, and various heads of departments and divisions drawn from all locations of the organisation.
