The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved a historic milestone, collecting over ₦1 trillion in revenue in 2025, well ahead of the mid-year mark. The Command’s records show a total of ₦1,002,968,178,694.07 amassed more than 45 days before the first half-year report.
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, the Customs Area Controller, credited this success to the strategic leadership of Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, effective measures to curb revenue leakages, and the dedication of officers.
He said achieving this milestone before mid-May underscores the command’s potential to surpass its 2024 record of ₦2.3 trillion by year-end.
Since assuming office in May 2024, Olomu has driven a high-performance culture.
He commended officers for their sustained efforts and urged them to intensify cargo examinations to combat smuggling, facilitate lawful trade, and maximize revenue collection.
He also emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing, collaboration with other government agencies, and regular stakeholder engagement to bolster economic contributions.
The deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, has enhanced productivity. Ongoing training for licensed Customs agents and freight forwarders ahead of its full implementation positions the Command to exceed its 2024 performance and meet 2025 targets.
“Our award-winning reputation as the leading customs command at Nigeria’s premier port remains strong,” Olomu stated. “This milestone reflects our resolve to avoid complacency, inspired by the example of our Comptroller General.”
He expressed gratitude to compliant stakeholders for their support and warned that any actions undermining national economic or security interests would face strict legal consequences.
In 2024, the Command earned multiple accolades, including the CGC Award of Excellence, while Olomu was named ‘Best Controller of the Year’ for his outstanding leadership at the Comptroller General of Customs Award night in Abuja.
