The command it will be recalled trained over 50 maritime journalists’ penultimate Tuesday on modern customs procedures at its newly commissioned ICT training facility.
Speaking at a forum in Lagos last weekend, Edike said that the decision to train clearing agents is to help build capacity and avoid incidences of wrong declarations.
“When we commissioned the ultra modern ICT training center last two weeks, the first people that were trained were not customs officers, they were journalists because we want to be on the same page with them. When agents are properly tutored, incidences of wrong declarations, false declarations, making unnecessary errors would be curtailed,” he said.
He said the training is also part of the Customs Comptroller General six point agenda to build capacity among clearing agents.
“If you see his six point agenda, you will see how important his attention is on ICT, capacity building and stakeholders’ relationship. All of this is aimed at making things easier and better and a creating stronger revenue base for the country,” Edike said.
