Apapa Port Terminal ‘E’ marks 2013 World Safety Day

The Terminal ‘E’ Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) community, Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Apapa, Lagos, yesterday organised a rally to mark the 2013 World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The rally themed Safety: Our aim, No accidents held at the Greenview Development Nigeria Limited (GDNL) Muster Point at the LPC, was to enlighten the terminal’s staff on the emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health.
The workers were lectured on Fire Safety Tips for Workplace, Workplace Accident Prevention, Workplace Housekeeping, Safety Tips Onboard Vessels and How to Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), among others.

The event also witnessed the presentation of awards to some of the staff for their good performances in the housekeeping of their work environment necessary to reduce risks of accidents and injuries.
In his speech, the GDNL Managing Director, Alhaji Abba Isa Bukar, said that the awareness was necessary to awaken the consciousness of the staff on the need to maintain a health and safe work environment.
“The terminal is a place where there are a lot of risks and also there are a lot of industrial complexes here so the environment we are working in is full of risks. But at our own level we will try as much as possible to create an enabling environment for people to come and work safely and leave. That is what we are doing and that is what we should continue to do,” he said.
Bukar also commended the awardees for their commitment to the routine maintenance and upkeep of their workplace while enjoining their colleagues to emulate them.
