APC Kano guber candidate Nasir Gawuna eyes NPA top job

Nasir Yusuf Gawuna

Supporters of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, have expressed optimism that their man will be appointed as the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Prior to flying the APC flag in 2023, Gawuna, 56, served as the Deputy Governor of Kano State from 19 September 2018 to 29 May 2023. He also served as the Chairman, Nassarawa Local Government Area for eight years under the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Ganuwa is a businessman who is not known to have any maritime or port related experience.

In May 2022, he became the Kano State governorship candidate of APC for the 2023 general election but lost to Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Already, Ganuwa’s supporters have taken to the social media to push the agenda for his appointment to head NPA.

“Ganuwa to be appointed MD NPA or DG NIMASA In shaa Allah,” one of his supporters named Engr. Alkassim Fge posted on his X handle.

“Ko NPA ko NIMASA zamu karbi daya,” another supporter named Arewa Cabal (@Oumarfharouuk) stated in Hausa. In English, his post means, “Be it NPA or NIMASA, we will grab one”.

The current Managing Director of NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko has been in the organisation for eight years first as the Executive Director Finance and Administration from 2016 to 2021; as acting Managing Director from May 2021 to February 15, 2022 when he became the substantive head of the agency.
