APM Terminals Apapa Limited has aided the diagnosis, treatment and care for cancer patients in Nigeria by renovating the Oncology Section of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), one of the best teaching/specialist hospitals in Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated Clinic on Monday, the Deputy Managing Director of APM Terminals Apapa, Olufemi Ransome-Kuti said cancer is a leading cause of death in the world today especially in developing countries like Nigeria. This fact, he said, aroused a passion within the company to support the care and treatment of cancer patients.

“The renovation of the oncology clinic is a corporate social responsibility initiative of our company in line with one of our core values, constant care, which focuses on sustainable business environment. This includes our employees, customers and their families,” he said.

The Head of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department of LUTH, Professor Remi Ajekigbe said along with everyone in the department, he is happy to see the oncology clinic take a facelift and is grateful to APM Terminals for taking the initiative.

According to him, “Cancer is a gloomy disease, and taking care of cancer patients in a gloomy environment will be double jeopardy.”

A recovered cancer patient and Managing Director of Bricon Global Consult, Abigail Simon-Hart who worked with APM Terminals on renovating the oncology clinic praised APM Terminals for taking the lead and sponsoring the renovation work. Sharing her experience, Abigail stressed the importance of early detection of cancer and the need to have an environment conducive for treatment, which she said, would aid the speedy recovery of patients.
