Black box data indicate similarities in Ethiopian Airlines, Lion Air crashes

Ethiopia’s Transport Minister, Dagmawit Moges has said that the black box data recovered from the recent Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 plane crash has “clear similarities” with the October 2018 Lion Air jet crash.

Both flights crashed shortly after takeoff, killing everybody on board.

Moges told newsmen on Sunday that the parallels will be the subject of further study during ongoing investigation into the crash.

Both crashes involved the same model of plane — Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 — and both pilots reported flight control issues, causing aviation authorities to ground the model around the world.

France’s Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) is working with US and Ethiopian investigators to determine the cause of the ET302 crash.

Flight ET 302 came down near the town of Bishoftu about 50 kilometers south of Addis Ababa, just minutes after taking off, killing all 157 people on board.
