Bumi Armada FPSO achieves first oil in North Sea Kraken field

Armada Kraken floating production storage and offloading

Fresh from the cancelling of a contract in West Africa, Malaysian oil and gas services firm Bumi Armada received some respite as its Armada Kraken floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit achieved first oil on the Kraken field in the UK North Sea.

Bumi Armada said the production rate is being increased and the FPSO will be further commissioned for final acceptance. Executive director and ceo Leon Harland said achieving first oil on the Armada Kraken FPSO was an important milestone as the group works to deliver oil for its clients, Enquest and Cairn Energy.

“The commissioning and operating teams have made tremendous efforts to achieve this milestone while remaining focused on safety of all people onboard the FPSO, as well as the integrity of our asset,” he said.  The Armada Kraken is the third of four FPSO projects that Bumi Armada is starting-up this year. Harland said the Armada Kraken is the group’s first ever heavy oil production facility and has the largest liquid handling capacity in its fleet of 460,000 bbls of liquid per day.

The project also marked Bumi Armada’s entry into the North Sea as a production facilities owner, operator and duty holder. “These are positive steps for the group, as we continue to increase cash flows and revenues from the four major projects that were under construction in the last three years,” Harland said.
