An Apapa Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate O.A Erinle on Wednesday sentenced a stowaway to 72 hours of community service at Ajeromi General Hospital.
The police had arraigned Daniel Isaac (31), and he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful entry into a vessel.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 31, 2018 at about 10am at Tin-Can Island Port Complex, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large and without purchasing traveling ticket, or being a passenger of a ship, unlawfully entered MV Mermaid Vessel with the intention of traveling to Europe,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under section 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Upon the guilty plea by the defendant, the Magistrate sentenced him to 72 hours of community service at the General Hospital, Ajeromi.
