Several tugs helped wrangle an Oceania Cruises cruise ship with more than 500 people on board after it broke free from its moorings in Scotland.
The incident happened Wednesday after in Greenock when ‘extremely’ strong winds caused the 593-foot, luxury cruise ship Nautica to break its moorings and drift away from the dock into the River Clyde.
“This afternoon, while alongside at the port of Greenock, Scotland, Nautica encountered extremely strong winds which resulted in the parting of mooring lines and the vessel being detached from the dock,” Oceania said in a statement.
“All guests and crew on board are safe and there were no injuries.”
After the incident, tugs were called in to assist the vessel back to her berth.
“478 guests and 26 crew are ashore and are being looked after by the shore operations teams until conditions are safe enough for the vessel to be returned to the passenger terminal,” Oceania added.
