The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has so far distributed 16,947 of 50kg bags of rice, 915 Jerricans of 25 litres each and 242 bales of clothing materials among other relief materials to 44 orphanage homes in Lagos.

Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah said in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday that the distribution took place from Tuesday, February 12th to Thursday, February 2, 2019.

Among the beneficiaries of the Federal Government gesture, he said are Little Saint Orphanage home, Tender Heart Children home, Sisters of Mother Theresa, Babs el Salam Orphanage among others with a total of 4028 children.

Attah quoted Comptroller Yakubu Salihu, who is the Chairman of the sub Committee, that the team was put together by the Comptroller General of Customs to implement the Presidential directive to the Service to extend distribution of these essential items to less privilege and vulnerable Nigerians. He added that the response has been encouraging and the exercise going smoothly.

“The Nigeria Customs Service sub- committee on distribution of relief items to IDPs and orphanages continue has continued to distribute rice, vegetable oil and bales of bales of clothing materials have been distributed to 44 orphanages in Lagos.

“The Chairman of the sub Committee, Comptroller Yakubu Salihu said, so far a total of 16, 947 of 50kg bags of rice, 915 Jerricans of 25 litres each and 242 bales of clothing materials have been distributed to 44 orphanages in Lagos. The cumulative numbers of children in these orphanages are 4028,” the statement said.

Attah said the on-going distribution exercise will also cover the four zones of the Service and expected to affect all identified and verified IDPs and orphanages across the country.
