The Defence Headquarters has dismissed rumours making the rounds that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin and the Chief of Naval State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas have been removed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It asked people to discountenance the rumours, even as it advised people to try to get their information from the appropriate top echelon of the Armed Forces before releasing such information.

Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, Director of Information, Defence Headquarters, dismissed the rumour in a telephone interview.

The Defence Headquarters’ spokesman, who expressed disappointment that the conventional media carried the false report like the social media, wondered where the false story emanated from.

“It is unfortunate that the false information was not only on the social media but also the conventional media. It is very wrong. We don’t know where these people are getting their information from.

“The information is wrong and false. We are issuing statement very soon.

“Like I said, we don’t know where these people are getting their information from. Issues of this importance should be cleared from the highest echelon.

“You don’t just create news. To the best of our knowledge, nothing like that happened. They are just circulating the false information for circulating sake.

“We will soon issue press release to that effect; that people should discountenance this kind of rumour. It is not true,” he said.
