The Monitoring Unit Patrol Team ‘B’ of the Federal Operations, Zone ‘C’ Owerri of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested a middle aged man, Uju, for allegedly conveying 619 bags of rice concealed with 47 bags of beans without Customs clearance certificate.
Uju, a father of five, who hails from Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, fell into Customs’ net after the driver of the truck carrying the goods with registration number XA 230 FKA was intercepted on the Umuahia-Aba Expressway on November 27.
It was gathered that the said Uju concealed the goods in such a way as to ward off all forms of inquisition and was travelling from Mubi in Adamawa State. Having been caught unawares, the driver of the truck was said to have took his heels.
Reacting to the incident, the Customs Area Controller of FOU Zone ‘C’, Victor David Dimka, said Uju would be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.
