The Al Fayrouz, a Panama-flagged RoRo ship was on Monday gutted by fire off Saudi Arabia’s Farasan Islands, Saudi authorities said.

The 1980 built vessel was en route from Suez port to Djibouti when the incident occurred.

The Saudi Arabian Border Guards were deployed after the ship sent a distress signal to the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Center of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba in Jeddah (JMRCC), rescuing all 31 crew members on board.

The ship operated by Marshall Islands-based Medmarine Shipping was completely destroyed by the inferno.
