The management of the Global Maritime Academy, Delta State, will tomorrow confer on the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the honour of grand patron of the academy.
This is contained in a statement made available to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY by the rector of the academy, Engr. Isaac Aikoroje.
He said that Tukur’s contribution to the development of the maritime industry informed their choice of bestowing the honour on him.
He said, “We wish to bring to the notice of the general public, that Global Maritime Academy, Nigeria, will be honouring her grand patron, Alh. (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur, CON, for his contribution to the development of the maritime industry.”
The rector said the institution would also honour Mr. Sohan Roy, the CEO of Aries Group of Companies, Sharjah, United Arab Emirate and other prominent Nigerians.
Aikoroje added that the investiture ceremony, which is the first of the academy, would be held at the school’s campus at Ogoni Olomu, Delta State.
He also disclosed that the national president of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Eugene Nweke, would be the chairman of the day.
Special guests expected at the ceremony include the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo, the governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, and the royal father of Ohworode, the Ovie of Olomu kingdom, who is also the father of the day.
