Hong Kong container throughput down 4% in February

Container throughput at the port of Hong Kong continued to slow down in February, falling 3.7% to 1.43m teu from 1.49m teu in the previous corresponding period.

But perhaps reflecting the generally lower volumes during the Chinese New Year period in February anyway, the decrease was lower than the 6.1% drop in volumes in January.

Throughput at the main Kwai Tsing terminals fell 3.2% to 1.18m teu while at the non-Kwai Tsing terminals volumes fell by a larger 5.6% to 250,000 teu.

For the year-to-date, volume fell by 5.0% overall to 3.26m teu and 6.3% drop to 2.61m teu for the Kwai Tsing terminals.
