Houthis Maintain Maritime Blockade on Israeli Vessels Amid Regional Tensions

Houthis hit vessel in Red Sea

The Houthis in Yemen announced on Sunday that they would continue enforcing a maritime blockade against Israeli vessels, citing “intelligence information” about Israeli-linked shipping companies transferring their assets to other entities.

The Iran-aligned group stated that its ongoing measures aim to support Hamas and Hezbollah in their actions against Israel.

The Houthis’ military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, indicated that the group received information suggesting numerous companies in Israel’s maritime industry are attempting to transfer ownership of their ships and other assets to bypass the blockade. He asserted that the Houthis will not recognize these asset transfers and cautioned any parties against engaging in transactions with such companies.

In an address broadcast on Sunday, Sarea reiterated that the group will persist in targeting any vessels affiliated with Israel or bound for Israeli ports, regardless of any changes in ownership. This blockade, he added, will remain in place until hostilities cease and the blockade on Gaza is lifted, along with an end to Israeli military actions affecting Lebanon.

By escalating its stance, the Houthi group underscores its commitment to aligning with broader regional actors opposing Israel, reflecting intensifying geopolitical tensions across the region.
