The suspect, simply identified as Adeyinka, who is currently facing interrogation at the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command, said that he used to be an importer of used shoes but took to crime after Customs officers seized his consignment.
“I am a welder, yet there is no electricity to work. I left welding for importation of used shoes, yet my goods were seized by the Nigeria Customs Service. The Customs officials are working for the government. The Customs officers, who seized my goods even when I explained my predicament to them, pushed me into this trouble,” he said.
Adeyinka also said that if given the opportunity, he would kill more policemen.
“Yes, we killed many policemen and collected their rifles in several operations. If I still have the opportunity, I will still kill policemen. There is no need pretending because I have been arrested. There is no way I will be let off the hook.
“The police are our enemies. We are also their enemies. They hate us and we don’t like them too. It is as if we are fighting for something. We are fighting for survival and they are against us. Why we hate the police is that they are still protecting those politicians, who put us into this mess,” he said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mr. Umar Manko, who paraded the suspect recently said there was no longer room for criminals especially, armed robbers and kidnappers to operate in the state.
He said he was not begging criminals not to strike as the state Anti-Robbery Squad led by Abba Kyari is equal to the task of either arresting any criminal while committing the crime or after the act.
