On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea hosted a formal dinner in honour of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi and members of his management team at the Embassy in Abuja.
The event highlighted the growing partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Korean authorities, underscoring shared goals in trade facilitation and customs modernisation.
Adeniyi, joined by senior officials including Deputy Comptroller-General of Human Resource Development Greg Itotoh, DCG of Tariff and Trade Caroline Niagwan, and DCG of ICT-Modernisation Kikelomo Adeola, expressed gratitude for Korea’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
In his address, Adeniyi emphasised the progress achieved through the partnership with the Korean Embassy and other allied agencies, which has bolstered the NCS’s capacity to implement advanced technologies.
“Our partnerships have enabled the NCS to engage in data analytics programs aligned with World Customs Organization standards,” Adeniyi said.
He elaborated on the benefits of analytics in driving informed decisions, noting, “Learning from leaders like Korean Customs has empowered us to refine our data-driven strategies.”
Korean Ambassador Kim Pankym commended the NCS leadership for their commitment and expressed enthusiasm for continued collaboration.
“We are honoured by the Comptroller-General’s presence and look forward to strengthening our ties with the Nigeria Customs Service,” he remarked, affirming Korea’s commitment to supporting the NCS in its modernisation efforts.
In his remarks, DCG Greg Itotoh conveyed the NCS’s appreciation for Korea’s proactive partnership.
“The Embassy’s support and commitment have been instrumental in driving the service to new heights. We anticipate further growth through these collaborations,” Itotoh stated.
