The Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL), an indigenous logistics support company in the nation’s maritime and oil and gas sectors, has identified human capital development and expansion of its logistics infrastructure as the main drivers of growth this year.
“LADOL in 2013 is going to be characterised by period of growth in two ways: human capital development in line with our plans to build Santa Academy in partnership with Samsung, and we are also going to look at infrastructure in line with our plan to build an FPSO integration facility,” Managing Director of LADOL, Amy Jadesimi, said in an interview.
According to Jadesimi, the construction works on the facility would take off this year alongside the logistics business of LADOL, including the rig repair business.
“We did the groundbreaking ceremony of Santa Academy last year but the reason the take-off was delayed was the tender process. We are partnering with Samsung in the development of the training centre but the tender process last year involved a number of significant changes.”
She further said LADOL met with Samsung this year and they confirmed they would start the construction work in the next two months.
Giving an overview of LADOL in 2012, Jadesimi said it was a very tough year for the company.
“We participated in a lot of tenders. Fortunately, the tenders came out very successfully but it was a very difficult process that involves lots of work, huge demand of expenditure with a number of large rig repair work to do, which we had to invest in new equipment and train a lot new personnel.
“The positive aspect of last year was the potential that we see building up in the market for the last five years, which has finally started to come through. We saw the will and the positive utilisation of Local Content such that we were visited by the minister of petroleum resources, Alison Madueke, in February last year and the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board.”
In 2012, she further said, LADOL also received a lot of government support and recognition for its performance in Local Content despite challenges it faced in the area of investment made.
