Lawmakers score NPA high on budget implementation

Members of the House of Representative Committee on Ports, Harbours and Waterways have commended Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for ensuring a high budget performance. This is even as the NPA management has assured stakeholders that it would continue to ensure efficient budgetary implementation.

NPA’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Mohammed Bello Koko who represented the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman said this in Lagos yesterday when members of the committee visited agency on oversight function.

He solicited support of the lawmakers towards rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure and procurement of plants and equipment across the nation’s seaports.

On capacity building, Koko said NPA will pay premium to staff training in line with best practices particularly concerning certification required for them “to operate seamlessly and efficiently”.

Chairman of the House committee, Patrick Asadu enjoined NPA to keep up its good work especially with regards to port modernization.

He charged the authority to prioritize critical areas of concern in its budget implementation.

He also tasked the NPA management to work towards generating more revenue “as the economic situation facing the country requires creative administrative management expertise in order for the living standard of Nigerians to appreciate once again”.

“We are generally impress by the performance of the NPA and if there are other areas we want them to improve when they come for Budget defence, these areas would be highlighted to them,” he said.

The committee also visited Lagos Channel Management (LCM) and other port facilities in Apapa.
