Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited, the promoter of Lekki Deep Sea Port, last Thursday inaugurated a Divisional Police Station to bolster security infrastructure within the port and its host communities.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, represented by the Operations Director, Yang Xixiong, described the commissioning of the police station as a significant addition to the port’s infrastructure.
He emphasised that it would further reinforce the port’s commitment to safety, security, and the well-being of those who work at or visit the facility.
“Ports are dynamic, bustling environments that play a crucial role in facilitating global trade and connecting nations. However, with such activity comes the responsibility to ensure the safety of goods, people, and infrastructure. As we expand our operations and strive for excellence, it becomes increasingly clear that maintaining a safe and secure environment is fundamental to our continued growth and success,” Wang stated.
Wang described the partnership between Lekki Port and the Nigerian Police Force as a testament to the role of joint efforts in creating a safer and more efficient working environment for employees, visitors, and stakeholders.
“This new police station will provide dedicated space for law enforcement officers to carry out their duties effectively, respond to incidents promptly, and maintain a visible presence throughout the port area. It will also enhance coordination with other agencies, ensuring we are well-prepared to swiftly and efficiently handle any security challenges that may arise,” he added.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Ibrahim Maikaba, expressed deep gratitude to the Lekki Port management team for its unwavering support and commitment to the construction of the modern police facility.
Maikaba assured that the Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the Free Trade Zone, aligning with all relevant laws to ensure a secure environment for commercial activities at Lekki Deep Sea Port.
He disclosed that officers deployed to the newly established division have been thoroughly briefed to work closely with the port’s management, the local community, and other stakeholders.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the Nigerian Police Force has been equipped to implement a comprehensive crime-mapping security strategy to proactively tackle criminal activities, apprehend offenders, and ensure thorough investigations leading to prosecution in competent courts.
“We would like to request the provision of a patrol van to enable swift responses to distress calls, which will greatly enhance the division’s capacity in discharging its official duties in line with global best practices,” Maikaba added.
