Man in court for threatening to paralyze truck driver

A 42-year-old man, identified as Chukwudi Ugwu, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to paralyze a truck driver over parking space.

Ugwu is facing a one-count charge of breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in the month of December 2018 at No 245 Kirikiri Road, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by telling one Kenneth Ezeanyido that he was going to paralyze him,” Ezeanyido said.

According to her, the offence is punishable under section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Meanwhile, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Martins Owumi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of employment and tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till January 10, 2019 for mention.
