Man docked for stealing 50 litres of diesel in Lagos hotel

The police on Friday arraigned a 40-year-old man, identified as Philip Odigidawu before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 50 litres of diesel at a hotel in Lagos.

Odigidawu is facing one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3, 2019 at about 6:30am at Exclusive Mansion Hotel, Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos.

“The defendant stole 50 litres of diesel valued at N12,000 property of Sunday Ozonuwe at Exclusive Mansion Hotel, Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

Magistrate A.S Okubule granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till April 1, 2019 for mention.
