A 32-year-old man, Godwin Eze, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing one officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps at Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos.
Eze is facing a one-count charge of assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, 2020 at about 8:30am.
“The defendant assaulted one Farinu Muftan an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps attached to NIMASA by stabbing him on his head with an unknown object while he was performing his lawful duty,” Babatope said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to related to the defendant and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till March 18, 2020 for mention.
