Morocco seizes 226 kg of cocaine worth $27m

The Moroccan authorities seized 226 kg of cocaine worth 27 million U.S. dollars and arrested six drug traffickers in the central city of Marrakech, the official news agency MAP reported on Friday .

The drugs were found in cases of fish inside a refrigerated truck coming from the south of the country, MAP said, quoting Marrakesh police. The driver and his aide as well as two other accomplices were arrested in Marrakesh, while two others were arrested in Rabat, MAP added, but did not detail on the origin of the drugs that was destined for sale abroad.

Given its geographical position, Morocco has become a transit point for cocaine heading to Europe from Latin America via western African countries.
