MWUN unit chairman dies in motor accident

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) announced the death of one of its unit chairmen, Comrade, Elegbede David, who died in “a ghastly motor accident” on Saturday May 4, 2024.

The union’s spokesman, John Ikemefuna, said until his death, Elegbede was the MWUN Unit Chairman at APM Terminals Apapa.

He described the deceased as a diligent and hardworking person with excellent leadership qualities as a unionist who influences workers positively.

“Comrade Elegbede started work at APMT in 2007 as a crane operator and had been a well-cultured member of the union and a dedicated dockworker staff of APMT,” he said.

Reacting to the loss, the President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, said the loss was painful and difficult to comprehend as Comrade Elegbede was a brilliant and intelligent union leader.

Adeyanju prayed that God grant him eternal rest and also grant the management of APM Terminals Apapa, his immediate family and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
