The Nigerian Navy has said it will not relent in its fight against sea robbers and pirates, saying its men at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft have been ordered to tackle the menace.
The Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Chris Ezekobe, gave the assurance at the weekend guaranteeing his command’s combat readiness in the fight against piracy.
Ezekobe disclosed this while closing the 2013 health programme organized by the command declaring free medical test for naval personnel seeking their status on diabetes, dental, eye and other related illnesses.
The commander noted that the turnout of officers and ratings was commendable; adding that the weeklong lecture on health matters and the free medical test gave them opportunity to know their status and how to manage it. The Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Ibok Ete Ibas, had earlier counselled the personnel on the need to know their status and stay healthy.
He however, expressed happiness that the naval personnel were highly enlightened on the danger associated with the scourge of HIV.
Ibas said that the service would continue with the enlightenment campaign in all formations to ensure a healthy workforce.
