The 11 crew kidnapped by pirates from a container ship off the coast of Nigeria on October 27, 2018 including eight Polish nationals, have been released and will be reunited with their families, Poland’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We would like to thank the shipowner, its co-workers and advisers for their professional handling of this difficult matter. We are grateful also to the Nigerian authorities,” the statement said.

The Liberian-flagged container ship, the Pomerenia Sky, was attacked off the Nigerian coast by armed men on October 27, as the vessel was arriving from Angola.

The report said the ship was captured at four o’clock in the morning 50 nautical miles off the coast of Nigeria.

The pirates floated on two motor boats and captured the ship. However, the crew of the ship had time to send a distress signal.
