NIMASA DG Vows to Deploy Idle Floating Dock After Six Years

Dayo Mobereola

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) said it is poised to operationalize its idle Modular Floating Dock, which was acquired more than six years ago at whopping sum of over N50 billion.

NIMASA Director General Dayo Mobereola said the agency is carefully evaluating proposals to ensure a strategic and beneficial utilisation of the facility. This comes after a recent visit to the dock to assess its condition.

Mobereola also revealed plans to disburse the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) to indigenous ship owners, enabling them to acquire vessels and tap into global opportunities. However, he emphasised the need for a strategic approach to ensure the vessels are utilised effectively and generate revenue.

Furthermore, he said NIMASA is collaborating with training institutions to enhance cadet training and reduce vessel incidents. The agency is also working with NIWA to develop strategies for a safer and more efficient maritime sector.
