The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced a bold revenue target of N560 billion for 2025, as revealed by its Director General, Dr. Dayo Moboreola, during a budget defence session with the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance in Abuja.
The 2025 target follows the National Assembly’s approval of NIMASA’s N537 billion budget proposal.
“It represents an increase from last year’s projection, and with the mechanisms we have in place, we are confident of achieving it,” Moboreola stated.
Beyond revenue generation, the DG highlighted NIMASA’s critical role in ensuring maritime safety and security.
He noted that Nigeria has experienced zero piracy incidents in its waters over the past three years—a milestone celebrated by the International Bureau of Maritime and the global maritime community.
“Our efforts have created safety and security not only within Nigerian waters but across the Gulf of Guinea,” Moboreola said, attributing the success to the support of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy under Minister Adegboyega Oyetola.
Moboreola credited the ministry for its contributions in regulatory enforcement, funding, and capacity building, which have strengthened the agency’s operations.
“With the ministry’s backing, we’ve maintained piracy-free waters, ensured high-seas safety, and established an effective regulatory framework,” he added.
The DG also emphasised NIMASA’s dedication to capacity building through initiatives like the National Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP). The program trains cadets locally, reducing reliance on foreign exchange and boosting Nigeria’s maritime workforce.
