No Eid holidays at Sohar port container terminal to avoid backlogs

Sohar Port and Freezone has said that the Oman International Container Terminal (OICT) will remain open on all days during the Eid al Adha holidays to avoid huge backlogs.

“OICT has announced that it will remain open during the forthcoming Eid al Adha festival to ensure that operations continue moving forward and most importantly, that we avoid a repeat of what happened when the supply chain closed down for the previous Eid holiday at the end of Ramadan,” a Sohar port spokesperson said.

Work will be aided by ROP’s temporary document clearance facility in Muscat for cargo arriving at Sohar port for shipping and clearing agents.

On measures taken to address cargo clearance delays, the spokesperson said that Sohar port has streamlined its efforts in handling container shipments in and out of the port with OICT.

“We have been encouraged by some of the steps that have been taken to ensure terminal operations are restored to acceptable standards as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said, when asked about complaints from agents.

The port has also launched Terminal Talk, an online customer service platform that will act as a communication channel. “The main purpose of the online platform is to ensure round-the-clock access to the terminal.

“This will offer all the parties to communicate about the new business environment and timely technological upgradations being carried out at the port. As the shipping and logistic industry in Oman is all set for charting out a new course with the operation of Sohar Port and Freezone, all concerned parties should work together. This portal can help bridge the communication gap among them,” the spokesperson added.
