Members of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have decried the poor condition of roads leading to the two major seaports in Lagos.

Chairman of the NPA Board, Emmanuel Adesoye, who spoke on behalf of his members after a tour of the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and the Tin Can Island Port both in Apapa on Friday, said he was aware of the challenges faced by terminal operators and port users in assessing the port due to the gridlock on the port access roads.

He said NPA was working with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (FMWH) to find solution to the gridlock.

He reiterated NPA’s commitment to the provision of modern port infrastructure at the various seaports across the country.

Earlier, the Port Manager Tin Can Island Port Complex, Emmanuel Akporherhe, solicited the renewal of severely dilapidated road and bridge infrastructures around the port.

He said the port handled 213 ships and 6.8 million metric tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2019.
