The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended the House of Representatives Committee on Shipping Services for its support of the Nigerian Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency Bill.
Oyetola expressed his gratitude during an oversight visit by committee members to the ministry on Monday, emphasising that the House’s backing is crucial to advancing the blue economy’s potential. He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling framework for the sector, which he described as a key driver of economic growth.
Chairman of the committee, Abdussamad Dasuki, reaffirmed the legislature’s dedication to fostering a strong partnership with the ministry. He highlighted the strategic importance of the blue economy in diversifying Nigeria’s revenue base and generating employment opportunities.
“Our meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, particularly on the bill, which has been passed by the National Assembly. We reviewed policy frameworks developed by the ministry to support the blue economy agenda,” Dasuki said.
He underscored the committee’s commitment to ensuring that legislative efforts align with the ministry’s objectives, adding, “This was an opportunity to put heads together and identify areas for mutual support. The committee remains steadfast in its resolve to support the ministry’s efforts to grow maritime and, by extension, the national economy.”
