Pandemonium as thunder storm hits Enugu airport

There was pandemonium early morning today at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, as a heavy thunder storm hit the airport, destroying some parts of the airport terminal building, pilot lounge and the General Aviation Terminal.
The storm, which left early morning passengers in fears and confusion also affected electric power lines to the airport, dragging the airport into immediate darkness.
An eye witness said the storm “hit the airport terminal building like an earthquake and destroyed many other buildings in the airport complex, including the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Staff Secondary and Primary School Buildings and other private residential buildings in the area.”
Confirming the incident in a statement, FAAN said it was “doing her best to restore normalcy” in the eastern airport.
Noting that no live was lost, the authority said it has taken immediate remedial actions to allow operations of flights in and out of the airport without hitches.
“FAAN Management took immediate remedial action which allowed flight operations in and out of the Airport. FAAN is doing her best to restore normalcy. There was no loss of life or injury and also flight operations were not affected in the Airport.
“The Management regrets the inconveniences caused by this incident to airport users and the general public,” the Authority stated.
