Police arraign man for stealing tyre ream at Sifax

The police on Monday arraigned a 28-year-old man identified as Obi Prosper before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing tyre ream belonging to Sifax.

Prosper is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 15, 2019 at about 1:30pm at Sifax Terminal Tin Can Island Port, Lagos. 

“The defendant stole one big haulage tyre with ream valued at N150,000 property of Sifax Ports & Cargo Company,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 281 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Chief Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety.

The surety, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till March 20, 2019 for mention.
