Police arraign three men for breach of peace in Apapa

Three men namely Nosiru Qudus (18), Yahaya Samson (19) and Balogun Abeeb (18) were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace in Apapa.

Qudus, Samson and Abeeb are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful society, breach of peace and using dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 20, 2018 at about 8pm at Ijora Oloye, Apapa, Lagos.

Aigbokhan said, “The defendants conspired together to manage unlawful society by committing act of violence as well as disturbing and encouraging the disturbances of peace.

“They also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.”

The prosecutor added that the defendants had in their possession dangerous weapons such as cutlass, knife and broken bottles with a view to attack members of the public.

According to him, the offences are punishable under section 411, 56(b), 168(d) and 51 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.

The Magistrate, K. A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each. The surety should furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till May 28, 2018 for mention.
