Police arraign three for stealing $5,000 from Lagos importer

Three men namely, Cajetan Osondu (40), Ugochukwu Onweh (31) and Ifeanyi Odiakosi (38), were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing $5,000, laptop and others from an importer in Lagos.

Osondu, Onweh and Odiakosi are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 31, 2019 at about 11:30pm at Church Bus Stop, Kuje Amuwo, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal $5,000 equivalent to N1,815,000, one Dell laptop valued at N120,000, one pair of shoes valued at N12,000, one pair of eye glasses valued at N6,000, all the school certificates. Total value of stolen items worth N1,953,000 properties of one Precious Odubia,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offenses are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendents bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Each surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till February 26, 2019 for mention.
